Thanks to Local Taster Hampers – every hamper that is sold funds a koala food tree as part of the Living with Koalas (LWK) Skools for Koalas programme. Koala food tree tube stock –  Tallowwood, Forest Red Gum and Swamp Mahogany – is delivered to schools where children have a lesson around koalas (a free book The Good Thing About… Koalas is given to the school along with a smart board presentation for teachers). The importance of water and how trees need water to be healthy to produce gum leaves which are the only source of food for a koala is also part of the lesson.  The children water the young gum trees for three months when they are collected and taken to a commercial tree grower in Kew, on the mid north coast of NSW and nurtured to bigger trees. These young trees are available in 75 litre and 100 litre growing bags to Councils and developers for planting where koalas need them most.  See Living with Koalas website for more details.
